Don’t be Put Off by the Color…
This cocktail tastes nothing like an orangesicle. (Then again, is that really a bad thing?)
Like last week, this cocktail is also from Mattew Rowley’s Lost Recipes of Prohibition (affiliate link). With a good portion of orange juice, it’s full bodied and full flavored – but contrasts the sweetness with bitter notes from the rye whiskey and tartness of lemon juice. It’s surprisingly balanced and not as sweet as it looks. Use fresh orange juice to get the brightest flavor.
This is a great orange juice cocktail for when you’re looking to use up that orange (you know the one – you already used all of the peel and it’s sitting there nakedly in your fruit bowl staring at you ….) but you don’t want something sweet. Give it a try, you’ll like it!
