A Sneak Peek
This week’s cocktail is actually a bit of a sneak peek of what’s to come on Monday. Chris made this cocktail while going through his research and trial-and-error figuring out the best way to use Barley Syrup in Cocktails. (It’s tough having to drink all of these “practice” cocktails, but someone’s gotta do it!)
The Dangers of Grocery Shopping Unattended
Quite a few of our cocktail start with Chris helping with the groceries… This time he came home with a whole bag of strange things that he wanted to experiment with in cocktails.
There’s a bag of pickling pickles in our fridge right now… I’m curious what’s in their future, but I’m sure you’ll see it soon enough!
So when Chris excitedly explained how he had found Barley Malt Syrup and couldn’t wait to try it in cocktails … I didn’t really understand. After all, what’s another syrup? He explained – the thing about Barley Malt Syrup is that it actually shares some similarities in how it is made with our good friend… Bourbon. So he was really interested to see if using it in cocktails alongside Bourbon would make the ultimate “Harvesty” cocktail.
…But a True “Home Run”
I am here to tell you, this is a fantastic cocktail. I’ve had some awful cocktails before (ahem), but this one is absolutely one of the best Chris has ever made. The barley malt syrup alongside the bourbon go together like family – and, well, they kind of are.
So definitely come back on Monday to learn all about this Syrup and how to use it in drinks. But in the mean time – that gives you roughly four days to find it in your local grocery store (or just order it here from Amazon – referral link) Trust me, you’ll want to have it on hand for Monday! Julia, it looks like the Barley Malt Cocktail Syrup recipe is missing some ingredients. Can you let us know how much water and syrup to use in it? This cocktail sounds lovely.

For the Old Fashioned, are we using 1/2 oz of Eden Barley Malt Syrup, or 1/2 oz of the Cocktail Syrup recipe?
