Just about everyone’s heard of a Margarita – but did you know that this particular Margarita recipe is one of the reasons for its worldwide popularity?
Tommy’s Margarita was invented by Tequila legend Julio Bermejo at Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco, California. The key difference between this recipe and its predecessors is the use of Agave Nectar instead of orange liqueur. The rest – as they say – is history!
Even better? Tommy’s is still open today, so you’re welcome to stop by San Francisco to give the original a taste!
- 2 oz Blanco or Reposado Tequila
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/2 oz Agave Nectar
- 1 Lime Wheel
- Combine tequila, lime, agave nectar with ice and shake to chill and dilute.
- Strain into a salted rocks glass or serve up in a salted Margarita glass without ice.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and a salt rim.
Double this and it exactly how I have developed mine!! Oh my. 4oz tequila, 2 oz fresh lime, I tbl of agave! They are great. I’m wondering how to also make an easy Daiquiri.
