In today’s Episode…
We’re recounting some of our most memorable experiences behind the bar – both good and bad.
Great Experiences:
- Guest Bartender night at the Bull Valley Roadhouse
- (Literally) under the railroad tracks at the Halbestadt Bar in Vienna
- The Hotsy Totsy bar in Albany California. (Here’s that interview we mentioned!)
- Bourbon and Branch: my first “craft” bar experience
Not so Great Experiences:
- Bartenders who focus on themselves, their reputation, “fame”, or anything aside from the customer.
- Poor Service Recovery: Things go wrong, we get that! But when they do, practice empathy and try to make it right.

Got a great experience that made a bar memorable for you? Let’s hear about it in the comments!
That first bar you mentioned — was the bartender Canadian? That was tire d’erable (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_taffy) that he was making! A favourite treat at the sugar bush in early spring, when the maple sap is running. 🙂
Hey that could definitely be it! Thanks, I definitely hadn’t heard of this before.
It’s one of my favourite things in the world. Would be amazing at a bar! No wonder it stood out for you guys!
