WHAT’S IN A NAME: CHANGING OUR PODCAST NAME TO MATCH OUR BAR TOOLS
You know us as the Mixology Talk Podcast, but we’re mixing it all up for you! (Get it?) To align with our product brand, we’ll be calling the podcast the A Bar Above Podcast moving forward. That way, there’s no brand confusion about what’s what and who’s who.
Plus, since Chris and Julia began this podcast back in 2014, the word “mixology” has gotten quite a bad rap. Not that we agree with all the criticism, but it just seems like it’s time for a fresh start.
Hopefully this name will be easier for everyone to remember when searching YouTube for our videos. And it might also help people remember that we, well, also sell barware! But don’t worry, our content will still focus on all things craft cocktails and the service industry.

LOOKING FORWARD: FOCUSING ON THE BASICS OF CRAFT COCKTAILS AND BARTENDING
Over the last 7 years, Chris and Julia have learned a lot more about the bar and restaurant industry, craft cocktails, techniques of making drinks, and– frankly– how to run a podcast and successful business.
A Bar Above has also expanded to include new employees (like yours truly) who bring experience and expertise to the table (not necessarily yours truly). So we have more information and new perspectives from our resident bartender and content strategist– just to name a couple new team members– to draw on as we move forward.
And in all this time of learning, growing, and sharing some awesome (and often very in-depth, nerdy) content with you, it’s been a while since we’ve just talked about the basics of creating great cocktails. So moving forward, we’re going to focus a bit more on the building blocks of being a bartender– both at home and professionally– and mixing cocktails.

Traditionally, we’ve focused more on professional bartenders and the industry as a whole. But honestly, the market has really changed in the last year and a half of the pandemic. More and more people are making drinks at home, so some of our focus will shift to include these new home bartenders as well.
No matter your experience level, though, we’ll still have a lot of great episodes and articles for you– from how to stock your home bar to deep-dives on cocktail families and specific spirits. So make sure to keep checking our podcast and our blog!

GOING GOLD: INTRODUCING OUR GOLD COCKTAIL BAR SET
From the video and the photos here in this article, you can see just how gorgeous our new gold bar tools are! I mean, they are so beautiful. Everything you’ve ever wanted– from a gold cocktail shaker to an entire gold bar tools set– will be available in our store for you to purchase.
We’ve worked really hard on these new products. Like, really hard. They’ve been in the works for a while, and they’re different than any other gold bar tools on the market because they’re actually home dishwasher safe! Say what?!?

Typically, a colored bar tool is made like this:
- 1) Nickel to form the barware
- 2) Copper or the color of the tool layered on top of the nickel
- 3) A layer of resin (plastic) on top to seal in the color
And they just can’t hold up in the dishwasher without losing their color because the resin wears off quickly. After a lot of experimentation, we’ve developed a gold bar set without the resin that will retain its color even when put in your home dishwasher!
If you’re dying to get your hands on some gorgeous gold, make sure to follow us on Instagram (@abarabove); we’ll be announcing a giveaway super soon, so you don’t want to miss out!
