In today’s Episode…
We’re talking about the weird stuff – the things that (I hope) don’t happen every day, but that you should probably still be prepared for, if you’re looking at making Bartending into a career.
Listen in to hear about:
- The hidden danger in seemingly perfect looking pint glasses
- When Taps Go Wrong
- A wonderfully awkward story of Chris handling champagne
- A little first-aid
- … and black vodka. (Hint: It’s gross.)

Working as a part time server, I did have one couple walk out w/o paying their bill. While they were about finished their apps, I went into the kitchen for their dinners. When I came out, they were gone. I asked the other servers and host if they knew where they went. Restrooms? They said they got into a fight and the woman marched out of the restaurant. The man followed and said he’d be back to the host. He never came back. I notified the manager and they just deleted the bill.
On a nicer note, I did have a lovely couple who were both hearing impaired. Wasn’t difficult at all to get their order exactly right through a little pointing, reading lips and sign language–and a few laughs. When they didn’t understand me, I just wrote it out or pointed to something.
