In today’s Episode…
We’re talking about Vodka. It’s a fairly straightforward Spirit, but I don’t think you know:
- Where the name comes from
- The TWO ingredients in the bottle you just bought
- Whether “More Distillations” really mean “better vodka”
- What Vodka is actually made of
- Common uses for Vodka around the house
- What does Vodka taste like?
- What do Pickles and Smoke fish have to do with it?
- … and I’m leaving the last one a secret!

Amazed by the powers of Vodka? I definitely underestimated this spirit – let us know what you think in the comments below!
Another interesting tidbit – vodka can be actually done from oil, because it is just ethanol diluted by water. In the blind test people cannot distinguish between vodkas made from oil and grain-based ones.
Interesting! Do you know of any brands that are made this way? I’d be really curious to give it a try!
I do not think that even if companies are doing that, they would admit to it at a gunpoint. It would definitely kill the brand straight away.
About pickles – that actually totally true. You down the shot and then munch some pickles. It creates very interesting sensation in your mouth.
Fish is actually optional, but during poor Soviet times that was almost the only thing you could put on the table (apart from bread)
It’d be nice if you guys had mentioned the differences between flat new world and savory old world vodkas… 😉
