Here are the Questions:
You’ll have to listen in for the answers!
From “Bahrain”: (I assume someone from Bahrain, not someone named Bahrain)
What is the difference between Champagne and Wine?
Steve from California:
What type of gin and vermouth do you prefer in a negroni? Ever make a negroni with tequila?
Jason from Knoxville:
As a bartender, how do you feel about couples who come up to the bar to eat instead of waiting for a table? And what if they don’t order drinks but just food? Isn’t the tip from food greater than from one or two drinks?
Tom from London, England:
In episode 28 you said your biggest pet peeve was a bartender who doesn’t know when to stir and when to shake. Fruit juice should always be shaken, you said… BUT… every recipe I’ve seen for a Screwdriver calls for it to be stirred, then the fresh OJ poured in to top up the glass, no shaking. I am confused.

Thanks especially to Bahrain, Steve, Jason and Tom. We have more questions pending, so if we haven’t answered yours yet, don’t worry, it’s coming! If you have questions of your own, definitely
I think there isn’t really a best Gin or Vermouth for a Negroni. What makes the Negroni so much fun is that you can experiment with the ingredients and really start to appreciate the differences between the ingredients and how they interact.
Personally, I love the taste of Cocchi neat and my gins with higher proof, so Martin Miller Westbourne Strength and Cocchi Vermouth di Torino are my go-to ingredients at home, but there is so much more to explore! Heck, I even had a Negroni with Gran Classico instead of Campari and it was wonderful…
And then I had the chance to taste a barrel-aged side by side with a “fresh” Negroni and that was such an intersting thing to experience. Oh, I love my Negronis…
I love this! I think this is what’s great about cocktails is there just is no “right” way to make anything. Make what you like, play with things, try new stuff – that’s what keeps it interesting!
I’m a big negroni fan, and have done my fair share of experimentation. I once went out to this place, and they recommended me a negroni made with gin, vermouth, and amaro nonino quintessentia to replace campari. It’s an italian liquer that is sweeter then campari, but really makes an unbelievable negroni! I have a bottle of this stuff on me now all the time. It’s even great chilled alone.
That sounds fantastic! I’ve had the Amaro Nonino and 100% agree. It’s definitely not a perfect substitute for Campari but I could see it making an amazing Negroni!
Hey, maybe an episode about the different kinds Amaro may be cool? Or is that too inside baseball?
I like that! Maybe it’ll be all bitter liqueurs, not just Amaro… Hmm I’ll have to think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!
