We Swore We’d Never…

If you’ve been following A Bar Above for a while, you’ve probably heard us say it loud and clear: We’re not fans of the cobbler shaker.

It’s true. Traditional cobbler cocktail shakers—those sleek, three-piece tools—have caused more than a few headaches behind the bar. From getting stuck shut after shaking to leaking mid-cocktail, most designs are more trouble than they’re worth.

But you kept asking for one. Over and over again.

So we did what we do best: We listened, we researched, and we got to work fixing the problems that have plagued the cobbler shaker for years. And now, after plenty of testing and input from our internal bar team, we’re proud to introduce the newest addition to our lineup:

What Makes Our Cobbler Shaker Better

We didn’t set out to make just another cocktail shaker. We set out to build the best cobbler shaker on the market— one that’s bartender-approved, beginner-friendly, and solves the issues we’ve experienced with every other version out there.

Here’s what makes our cobbler shaker different:

1. No More Stuck Lids

The number one issue with most cobbler shakers? They freeze shut. As the metal chills during shaking, it contracts, creating a vacuum seal that makes it nearly impossible to open.

Our cobbler shaker solves this with dual silicone gaskets inside the shaker top. These gaskets allow just enough give to prevent the metal-on-metal lock-up, so your shaker opens smoothly every time.

2. Measurement Lines Inside the Lid

The cap doubles as a built-in jigger, with engraved measurement lines (from 0.25 oz to 2 oz) so you can measure and pour your cocktail ingredients directly into the shaker—saving time, space, and dishes.

3. Watertight, Leak-Free Design

With the same dual gaskets, this cobbler cocktail shaker forms a tight seal that prevents leaks while shaking. That means no sticky mess on your bar, hands, or apron— just clean, efficient shaking.

4. Built-In Strainer

Yes, this cobbler shaker has the classic built-in strainer in the shaker top, perfectly perforated to keep ice and muddled ingredients out of your drink.

5. Comfortable, Durable, and Professional-Grade

Crafted from high-quality 304 stainless steel, this 20 oz cocktail shaker is built for both professional bartenders and home enthusiasts. The ergonomic design feels comfortable in your hand and looks right at home on any bar cart.

Cobbler Shaker vs. Boston Shaker

If you’re new to cocktail making, you might be wondering: what’s the difference between a cobbler shaker and a Boston shaker, and which one is right for you?

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Cobbler Shaker:

  • Three-piece design: base, strainer top, and cap

  • Built-in strainer makes it user-friendly

  • Great for beginners or casual home use

  • Historically prone to freezing shut or leaking—which we’ve solved with our new design

Boston Shaker:

  • Two-piece design: usually one large tin and one smaller tin or mixing glass

  • Requires a separate strainer (like a Hawthorne or julep strainer)

  • Preferred by many professional bartenders for speed and volume

  • Slight learning curve for sealing and separating the tins

Basically, the cobbler cocktail shaker is perfect for anyone who wants a convenient, all-in-one solution for shaking up drinks. And with our upgraded design, you don’t have to sacrifice performance for simplicity.

And if you’re a fan of the two-piece cocktail shaker, you can find our Boston version here.

Cocktails to Make in Your Cobbler Shaker

Pretty much any cocktail or mocktail that needs to be shaken can be made in the cobbler shaker: Drinks with varied or dense ingredients, juice, egg whites/aquafaba, and/or muddled ingredients. Here are a few favorites to get you started:
