Mix the cranberry juice and sugar in a small microwaveable glass or mug.
Microwave for 10 seconds, stir, and heat for another 10 seconds until the sugar has fully dissolved.
Add bitters, cranberry/sugar mixture and Genever to a mixing glass with ice.
Stir to dilute & chill.
Strain into a rocks glass, add a large ice cube, and top with soda water.
Garnish with orange zest.
